REMAP Advantages | Reed Eye Movement Acupressure Psychotherapy
5
Advantages To Working With The REMAP Process
by Steve B.
Reed, LPC, LMSW, LMFT
There
are 361 acupressure points in traditional Chinese medicine.
TFT uses 14 of those points and basic EFT uses 13 of
them. The question
that I kept asking myself was what are all of those other points
for? Seeking an
answer to that question led me to develop the
REMAP process.
What started as a tool to extend the effectiveness of EFT
into the whole acupressure system eventually became an entire
methodology utilizing eye movement techniques for accessing the
problem more thoroughly and acupressure protocols for quickly
and easily drawing upon the full range of treatment point
possibilities.
It began with
a therapy session that wasn’t going very well.
A woman had just discovered that her husband had left her
for the forth time. The
pattern was that he would abandon the marriage every three years
like clock-work. This
time it was too much. She
knew she couldn’t go through it again.
She wept from the core of her being. The pain and anger
seemed unbearable to her. After
trying TFT and multiple rounds of EFT the session clock was down
to the last five minutes and she was crying too hard to be able
to drive. So we
tried an experiment. I
had her simple hold each of the points used in TFT/EFT one at a
time. She was asked
to tell me if she could notice any difference: better or worse.
The only point that yielded any change was Liver 14 which
is located on the lower front of the rib cage.
Yet this point did not help enough.
So I decided to test the other 13 points on the Liver
meridian. Beginning
with Liver 13 and working back toward Liver 1, each point was
tried. There was no
change until we reached Liver 3 which is on the top of the foot.
At that point there was a dramatic and immediate easing
of her pain. She
went from a 10 plus (on a 0-10 scale) down to a level 3 within
seconds. I then
knew that we had only just begun to tap the power of the
acupressure system. By
escaping the notion that kinesiology or intuition was the only
way to diagnose effected meridians and points, I began to
develop the REMAP process.
EFT and TFT
trained practitioners sometimes asked about the advantages of
adding this method to their existing set of tools.
As just mentioned, one of the key advantages is that all
of the benefits of the REMAP process can be accomplished without
the drawbacks of having to rely on muscle testing or intuition.
Some
of those major benefits are that the REMAP process:
The practitioner utilizes techniques that work closely with the
client’s subconscious, thus facilitating a process that honors
the client’s inner wisdom about where they need to go to
foster healing. One
of the best parts is that the process is so simple that you
don’t have to memorize any of the acupressure points.
The REMAP process is an elegant stand-alone method that
can also be combined with EFT, TFT, EMDR or other effective
tools.
